On a little bit of an impulse I picked up an inexpensive fisheye recently. It's a Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 MF. I guess this same line of lenses comes under several names like Bower and Vivitar.
Anyway, it's a fun lens. Distortion is actually less than what I was expecting. The day it arrived I took it to the fairgrounds to shoot some test shots and my cat was hanging out over there. So he got to do a little modeling for me.

Great show over the weekend at the Eldo. I used to always tape these guys but this time I just took some photos. The old trusty SMC-A f/1.7 was just the thing for getting these without blinding everyone with a flash. That would probably piss off the band, too.
More photos here.

I recently got what I think is a good deal on a Sigma EF-530 DG Super flash which I'm in the process of getting acquainted with. There is a new model coming out (25% more power) and retaillers (Amazon in my case) were clearing the old ones out. It's not the fanciest flash but it does support P-TTL which is a good way to get proper exposure when using an external fash. It also does bounce and tilt which I wanted for the ability to bounce light of ceilings which usually gives a nice effect. Tilt is good for the same reason but when shooting in portrait orientation.
I'm pretty new to the world of modern flashes, so all the lingo and features were a bit confusing and daunting for me. A site that really helped me figure it out was The Difinitive Guide - Pentax P-TTL Flash Comparison. This is the only place I have found all this information as well as direct comparisons between flashes in one easy to understand spot. I highly recommend it if you are searching for a Pentax flash.

I keep getting good chances to get shots of eagles this year. What does it mean? Probably just a healthy eagle population and I've been carrying my camera a lot. Whatever the meaning I like it.
Here one feeds on a coyote carcass not far from the road outside of Crested Butte, Co.

This was shot last summer when things looked pretty different around here. I came across it the other day and hadn't done any processing on this one yet so I decided to see what I could make of it. As much as I love winter and snow, this does make me miss those long warm summer days a little. But they will be back soon enough. Now, back to the season at hand!
