I had to stop and take this from the roadside at the Colorado National Monument. Storms rolled through the Grand Valley all day and this one was was especially well defined. When I saw I could use some canyon walls to lead to it I had to go for it. I'm glad I did.
Those storms complicated our intended camping trip but didn't keep us from having a great time on a mini family vacation.

A friend and I skied a nearby peak, Augusta recently. It was a "dawn patrol" early start and well worth it!
I carried my Pentax K-5 camera body and a couple of small high quality primes, the Pentax DA 15mm and 40mm Limiteds.

We stayed at Waunita Hot Spring Ranch for my son's birthday after a great ski day at Monarch. It was so pretty out at night I had to get the tripod out for some night shots.
There's also this cool old truck out back that was being so nicely lit by that moonlight.
Waunita is a really nice spot with a lot of character. We had a great time!
