My friend G who is a leukemia survivor has been selected for a trip to summit Kilimanjaro with a group of fellow survivors by an organization called CancerClimber. This is a really cool opportunity for him and a good reason for me to go hike some peaks with him while he trains.

So last Friday night we met another friend and camped out to summit two 14ers in the Collegiate Peaks range, Harvard and Columbia the following day.

It was a long day and I was totally exhausted by the end of it but we summited both peaks. It was longer and harder than I was anticipating and the day after I was more sore than I can recall being in recent years. G proved to be the fittest and I think he's on track for his upcoming adventure. It sure was fun to be up there on the high peaks and ridges in nice cool temperatures while we knew it was really hot down lower. I can't think of too many other ways I'd want to spend a hot Colorado day.

For the photos I carried my Pentax K-5 on a Black Rapid Sport 2 strap under my backpack strap and a couple of my favorite small prime lenses, the Pentax DA 15mm f/4 Limited and DA 40mm f/2.8 Limited. This setup actually worked very well keeping the camera handy yet not in the way.

I have a few more images in a Flickr gallery here.

Good luck G!
