The colors in Michigan were great last weekend while I just happened to be there in it. I particularly liked the sun behind these trees just lighting them up.

I camped near home over the weekend for my wife's and my 17th wedding anniversary. It was great fun and I set up my camera for some star trails late Saturday night. This is 100 consecutive 8s exposures stacked using ImageStacker software.
The Pentax K-5 has a very handy interval shooting feature that facilitates this kind of shot very well. I just set it up on the tripod, hit go, and returned later to review the results.
I just missed a big meteor while I was setting up (darn!) but I did catch a couple of small ones near the top of the frame. The red trail on the left is most likely a satellite and the horizontal ones are airplanes. Foreground fill light was provided by the almost-full moon rising to the East.

Hartman Rocks is dry. A bit too dry even, but the transition from ski to mountain bike was smooth and instant this year.
It was a nice evening out there last night with some great storm clouds rolling through the valley.
This shot is from the Top of the World trail looking North at a spot I've taken photos before.

This is the first New ear's day I haven't skied in a long time. We skated Blue Mesa Reservoir instead and had a fun day. We have a very big slab of ice out there!
Happy New Year and all the best for 2012!

I came across this guy (or gal) in Mineral Hot Springs, Co. We went to soak and stay last weekend and this beautiful owl was in a tree behind our room. The light was nice so I had to get out the A* 300mm again. Still enjoying that lens!
I've been told seeing an owl is an omen, but that might be a sign of something good or bad approaching. So I guess I'll just keep on being ready for whatever comes my way like I always try to be. It seems like just about anything could be a sign of something in your future that might be either good or bad. That's a wide array of possibilities!

I always like the light better as the sun gets lower in the sky. So as fall takes hold here in the high country I start noticing more shadows. Here's a scene I cam upon while riding through town the other day. This is why I carry my camera everywhere. The hard contrast seemed well suited to a bold B&W like this.

I saw this horse riding home from a mountain bike ride. She wanted some pats and came right up to the fence. The light suddenly broke through the clouds and I knew I had to get this shot!

I saw this riding to work this morning. The low angle sun filtering through the aspen and then the water from a sprinkler was just too perfect and I had to stop. So glad I did!

I had fun taking some star shots Friday night while camping with the family at Hartman Rocks. For this one I used the 8mm Rokinon fisheye which worked perfectly for a nice ultra wide shot. Fun lens, fun night. The meteor in the upper left was icing on the cake!
The light on the rocks was from the campfire and the sage was from a flashlight.

It just keeps coming! What a great week of unsettled weather to shoot in! That was from last night's ride following the Growler series race course to pick up the course markers. Good thing I brought the camera!
